Vitamin C helps the body absorb iron more effectively. Combining both nutrients ensures that the iron is utilised optimally – and you get the maximum benefit from each capsule.

How does vitamin C affect iron absorption? / What role does vitamin C play in iron absorption?

Vitamin C helps the body absorb iron – especially from plant sources (non-heme iron) – more effectively. It improves the solubility of iron and promotes its conversion into a more bioavailable form. Thus, vitamin C supports a more effective utilization of the iron that is absorbed.

When should you take iron and vitamin C?

It is best to take it in the morning on an empty stomach or between meals – this allows your body to absorb the iron particularly well. And thanks to buffered vitamin C, the combination is also gentle on the stomach.

How much vitamin C is usually recommended for iron?

For better iron absorption, 80–100 mg of vitamin C per serving is sufficient. This amount effectively helps the body absorb iron from food or supplements.

What is the difference between iron bisglycinate and other forms of iron?

Iron bisglycinate is a particularly well-tolerated and bioavailable form of iron. By binding to the amino acid glycine, it is more easily absorbed by the body and causes fewer gastrointestinal complaints than many conventional iron compounds. Ideal for sensitive people or long-term use.

Can you combine Iron & Vitamin C with other supplements?

Yes, this is generally possible. However, make sure not to take iron-blocking substances like calcium or zinc at the same time – they can interfere with iron absorption. It’s best to leave some time between taking them.

What does the term “pure substance principle” mean?

At BIOGENA, “pure substance principle” means that we do not use technological additives which are used for the fully automated manufacturing of tablets, capsules and pills (e.g. anticaking or release agents and so forth) or additives that are used for optical reasons or for enhancing the taste of the products (artificial aroma, colouring agents, coatings etc.). Due to a semi-automatic manufacturing process, we can avoid these substances that often have a higher proportion in customary products than the actual active ingredients. In the case of nutritional supplements, additives have to be indicated in the list of ingredients. Here, the patient or customer can get useful information. Concerning the single ingredients, we also care for our raw materials to be free of carrier substances. In cases where this is not possible, we use natural food components such as maltodextrin, cellulose powder or calcium carbonate. The majority of our ingredients is produced exclusively for us – free of carrier substances (e.g. our enzymes our probiotics: other manufacturers often use lactose as a carrier – the product batches produced for us are explicitly without carriers).
