Salzburg, 7th of October 2026. BIOGENA is setting the course for its next phase of development: Julia Hoffmann, a long-standing senior executive and member of the Executive Board, is taking on overall scientific responsibility for the group. She combines research, diagnostics, product innovation and health education into a comprehensive approach to prevention and personalised health.
The BIOGENA GROUP is taking a further strategic step in the expansion of its health ecosystem: Julia Hoffmann is assuming overall scientific responsibility for the group as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO). In doing so, BIOGENA is placing science even more firmly at the heart of its corporate development – from research and personalised health solutions to the dissemination of knowledge to the general public.
Hoffmann reports directly to founder and CEO Dr Albert Schmidbauer. Her area of responsibility encompasses Evidence & Education, Research & Development, scientific studies and innovation, product development and product management, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and Marketing & PR. Under her leadership, scientific findings are to be incorporated more swiftly into products, applications and health services, and binding quality standards are to apply across all areas.
“We want to play an active role in shaping the future of health. To do this, we must better understand what each individual needs, consistently apply scientific findings and use them to develop solutions that make a difference in everyday life. Julia has played a key role in shaping BIOGENA for the past eleven years. She brings the entrepreneurial experience, healthcare expertise and creative drive needed to lead this next major stage of development,” explains Dr Albert Schmidbauer, founder and CEO of the BIOGENA GROUP.
From a long-serving manager to a leading academic authority
Julia Hoffmann has been with the BIOGENA GROUP for eleven years, holding management roles in various departments for the past nine years and serving on the Executive Board for the past five years. She has thus helped shape the Group’s development over many years from key leadership positions.
Alongside her management work, Hoffmann has completed several specialist training and further education courses and has supplemented her background in economics with qualifications in the health sector, including as a nutritionist and female health coach. Her new role combines these skills: entrepreneurial implementation, scientifically sound prevention and the clear communication of health knowledge.
Hoffmann also makes her mark as an author. She is co-author of several specialist articles on corporate social responsibility published by Springer Verlag. Together with Dr Patrick Bantsich, she is also the author of Female Longevity – Health, Energy and Balance in Every Phase of Life. The book is due to be published on 27 January 2027 by Kneipp Verlag and explores how women can specifically strengthen their health throughout all stages of life.
“With our book ‘Female Longevity’, Patrick Bantsich and I aim to equip women with the knowledge to actively shape their health at every stage of life. Women’s health deserves its own distinct focus – from hormones and metabolism to muscles, bones and mental health. We show how scientific findings can be translated into practical steps for everyday life. It’s about living a healthy life for longer whilst maintaining energy, self-determination and quality of life,” explains Julia Hoffmann.
Bringing together diagnostics, prevention and innovation
A key focus of her new role is the development of integrated diagnostic solutions. These are to be specifically linked to BIOGENA’s products, applications and personalised healthcare services. The aim is to better identify individual needs, tailor prevention accordingly, and provide people with a clear path from diagnostic findings to concrete action.
For customers, doctors and therapists, this is intended to result in a scientifically sound, comprehensive concept that effectively brings together the individual components of preventive healthcare. To this end, Hoffmann defines scientific standards and guidelines that are binding across the entire group. She ensures that products, services, studies and health-related claims are based on robust evidence, are compliant with regulatory requirements and reflect the current state of scientific knowledge.
Hoffmann is also driving forward the targeted and responsible use of artificial intelligence within her scientific and medical remit. AI is intended to help evaluate scientific findings more quickly, interpret diagnostic data more effectively and support development processes. Data protection, scientific quality and regulatory compliance form the binding framework. Responsibility for key decisions remains with humans.
Health expertise with reach and impact
Another key focus is the expansion of health education. Hoffmann is responsible for the scientific and content-related direction of the BIOGENA ACADEMY, with its training and continuing professional development programmes for doctors, therapists, other partners, customers and staff.
Her podcast and vodcast, ‘The Wellbeing Code by BIOGENA’, demonstrates that in-depth health knowledge can reach a wide audience. As founder, host and editorial director, Hoffmann has established a format that reached number one in the Austrian Apple Podcast charts in the health and nutrition category shortly after its launch. The podcast also ranks highly in Germany. To date, the programme has been streamed more than 85,000 times in total.
Under the umbrella of a BIOGENA media house, further accessible programmes for the general public are to be developed under her scientific leadership. The aim is to convey health knowledge in such a way that people can use it to make concrete decisions about their lives.
This combination of specialist depth and practical application also characterises the fifth edition of the approximately 800-page specialist guide Mikronährstoff-Coach (Micronutrient Coach), which is currently in production and has established itself as a standard reference work. In addition to the German edition, English and Italian versions are currently being developed. The content will be available in both print and digital formats.
With Julia Hoffmann as Chief Scientific Officer, the BIOGENA GROUP is bringing its scientific expertise together under a single central responsibility. Research, diagnostics, health products, applications, education and personalised health services are thus being linked even more closely. Hoffmann represents the group as its central scientific authority in dealings with universities, research institutions, doctors, therapists, scientific partners and the media.
