Dietary fibres are an important part of our diet. They are indigestible for humans, but still have important functions. Some of the dietary fibres swell in the intestines, increase the intestinal contents, make them soft and supple and thus stimulate intestinal activity and excretion. The other part serves the bacteria of the intestinal flora as food. The bacteria break down the long carbohydrate chains of the dietary fibres and use them as "food". In some people, the bacteria are overburdened when special fibre types are supplied. Then more gases are produced in the intestine. The vegetable fibres from beans are a good example here.

Digestion made easier
The human digestive tract lacks the enzymes necessary to break down dietary fibres. But these exist in nature. For example, cellulases that break down cellulose and others.
