The list of histamine-containing and histamine-releasing foods is long. They range from hard cheese and smoked meat to various types of fruit, chocolate and alcoholic beverages such as red wine. The body's own enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO) is responsible for the breakdown of histamine. However, the degradation of histamine can be difficult for many people. There are many reasons for a reduced DAO activity, but all show the same result: discomfort after consuming many foods, caused by too little degraded histamine. DAO activity is not always restricted, and often an imbalance between the intake and degradation of food histamine leads to the same problems.
Biogena DAOZym® is an innovative combination product with the enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO) and the amino acid L-glutamine. With DAOZym®, the DAO enzyme can easily be supplied as required and thus contribute to the tolerability of histamine-containing foods. DAOZym® also contains the amino acid L-glutamine in its bioidentical L-form. DAOZym® is therefore an optimal source for the additional supply of L-glutamine in addition to the daily diet and the body's own synthesis.

The enzyme diamine oxidase (DAO)
Diamine oxidase is produced by special cells in the intestinal mucosa and released into the small intestine. This is where the enzyme which contains copper is responsible for breaking down histamine from food and other biogenic amines so that these substances cannot be absorbed further into the body. Important cofactors such as vitamin B6, vitamin C, zinc and copper increase the activity of DAO, while the amino acid L-glutamine also plays a decisive role: It strengthens and regenerates the intestinal mucosa.
