Is omega-3 oil vegan?

Yes, our BIOGENA SPORTS Omega-3 oil is 100 % vegan. It is obtained from algae oil and is the plant-based alternative to fish oil.

Is plant-based omega-3 just as effective?

Yes, plant-based omega-3 from algae provides the same important fatty acids (EPA and DHA) as fish oil, only without animal products. It is just as effective and sustainable.

What makes algae oil better than flaxseed (linseed) oil?

Algae oil directly contains the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA, which are particularly important for the heart and brain. Linseed oil provides ALA, which must first be converted.

What type of algae is used in BIOGENA’s omega-3 oil?

Our BIOGENA SPORTS Omega-3 oil is extracted from the microalgae Schizochytrium sp. This algae is rich in omega-3 fatty acids such as EPA and DHA.

Is algae omega-3 as good as fish oil?

Yes, vegan omega-3 from algae is just as high-quality a source of EPA and DHA as fish oil. It supports the heart, brain and regeneration - without any animal products.

Why isn’t a TOTOX value listed for this product?

Due to the flavours contained in liquid products, it is not possible to measure the TOTOX of the end product. We therefore measure the quality using the peroxide value and acid value instead. For our new Omega 3 liquid vegan Superior, the peroxide value is 3.2 meq/kg and the acid value is <0.2 mg KOH/g.Olive oil, for example, typically has an acid value of 0.41 mg KOH/g. Our oil is therefore of very good freshness and quality.

What does the term “pure substance principle” mean?

At BIOGENA, “pure substance principle” means that we do not use technological additives which are used for the fully automated manufacturing of tablets, capsules and pills (e.g. anticaking or release agents and so forth) or additives that are used for optical reasons or for enhancing the taste of the products (artificial aroma, colouring agents, coatings etc.). Due to a semi-automatic manufacturing process, we can avoid these substances that often have a higher proportion in customary products than the actual active ingredients. In the case of nutritional supplements, additives have to be indicated in the list of ingredients. Here, the patient or customer can get useful information. Concerning the single ingredients, we also care for our raw materials to be free of carrier substances. In cases where this is not possible, we use natural food components such as maltodextrin, cellulose powder or calcium carbonate. The majority of our ingredients is produced exclusively for us – free of carrier substances (e.g. our enzymes our probiotics: other manufacturers often use lactose as a carrier – the product batches produced for us are explicitly without carriers).
