Robust bones are undoubtedly a long-term project – a nutrient-rich, predominantly plant-based diet, the optimum supply of vitamin D all year round, and regular exercise form the basis for this. The latter in particular signals to the body that it is worth focusing on bone mineralisation. In addition, special preparations with scientifically documented bone nutrients can also help us in a targeted manner.

It is true that a balanced and healthy diet supplies us with nearly all the micronutrients, vitamins and minerals that we need. Yes, iron can easily be taken with amino acids. The combination of iron with sulphurous amino acids is actually highly recommended, as this can increase the iron absorption into the body.

Biogena capsules are not designed for opening and directly swallowing the active ingredient powder they contain. If possible, you should – as intended – swallow the capsule as a whole. In exceptional cases, such as, for example, if you have trouble swallowing the capsule, our powder preparations can be opened by pulling the two halves of the capsule apart. The active ingredient powder can be stirred into water, still mineral water or herbal tea and should be consumed immediately. Since black tea, coke or fruit juices can inhibit the absorption of the active ingredient in the body, they are not suitable for mixing. It is not possible to open the capsule for all Biogena products, however. No enzyme preparations should be opened (DigestioCym® 200 vegetarisch, BromeZym® Zink 10, ConfiZym® and DoloZym® forte Gold, LactroZym® and DAOZym®), nor probiotics (Omni Lactis® 20 Gold and Omni Lactis® 20 Pur Gold). In the case of iron (Ferrogena® 10, QuattroFerrin® 21, SmartFerrin® B12, MoFerrin® 21, Iron & Vitamin C), opening is also not recommended since it can cause the teeth to be stained.

Certain groups of people have a higher risk of reduced bone density. These include menopausal women. During this phase of life, production of the bone-protecting hormone oestrogen decreases. The earlier a woman enters menopause, the greater the risk. In men over 60, decreasing testosterone levels can lead to reduced bone density. However, this effect occurs later and more slowly than in women. But younger people can also be subject to an increased risk. People who are very slim and have a low body weight are particularly at risk. The threshold for an increased risk is a body mass index of 19 – anyone under this limit should take care of their bone health. One-sided diets – from junk food to pineapple diets – may be lacking in bone nutrients. Low activity levels and prolonged periods of time in enclosed spaces (no sun, no vitamin D) are additional risk factors for bone density. Smoking and alcohol are also unhelpful factors. Anyone taking medication over a longer period of time should discuss the topic of bone density with his/her doctor and take measures to counteract bone loss. Intolerances to certain foods often lead to resorption disorders, which can also affect bone nutrients. Strict avoidance of certain food groups also eliminates important nutrients. People who suffer from intestinal and digestive problems should also consider their bone density.
