Can I obtain vitamin D from food?

In practice, it is not possible to meet the daily vitamin D requirement through food. By far the most vitamin D is found in fatty fish, such as salmon and herring. To a far lesser extent it is found in liver, egg yolks and some fungi, such as chanterelles and wild mushrooms.

How does the body produce vitamin D?

The human body produces 80–90% of vitamin D with the help of sunlight. UVB radiation is essential for this. The UVB radiation contained in sunlight first converts a form of cholesterol in the outer layer of skin into previtamin D3 and then converts this into vitamin D3. The body then has to convert the vitamin D3 that has been created in this way into its storage form calcidiol or its active form, the vitamin D hormone calcitriol, via metabolic pathways.

Do vitamin D preparations make sense in combination with vitamin K?

The synergistic effects of vitamins D3 and K2 are the focus of current science and research, which has led to the development of the micronutrient preparation Biogena Vitamin D3 & K2. Vitamin K contributes to normal blood clotting, helps maintain normal bones just like vitamin D and is therefore a sensible addition to vitamin D supplementation.

Is it possible to overdose on vitamin C?

An overdose of vitamin C is generally possible, but relatively rare and in most cases not serious, since excess vitamin C is usually excreted in the urine. The body can only absorb and use a limited amount of vitamin C. Only persons with impaired renal function or metabolic disease should exercise caution with vitamin C. In such a case, consult a medical professional. In general, it is advisable not to exceed the recommended daily dose of the product when taking vitamin preparations.

Is vitamin C heat resistant?

Vitamin C is a heat sensitive vitamin, so long cooking times at high temperatures should be avoided in fruit and vegetables.

Which food is highest in vitamin C?

Among our most common foods, rosehips, sea buckthorn, blackcurrants, red pepper, broccoli, kale and Brussels sprouts contain the most vitamin C.
