Selenium is a relatively rare trace element that occurs in varying concentrations in the earth's crust. The selenium content of plants and cereals is strongly dependent on the selenium deposits in the soil.In large parts of Europe, the soil is not particularly rich in selenium, so that the selenium content in plant foods can vary greatly depending on the area where they are grown. In vegetarian or vegan diets, special attention should be paid to the selenium status.
However, as a component of many enzymes and proteins, selenium is involved in many important reactions in the body and is therefore an essential trace element. One of the most important tasks is to support thyroid metabolism as a cofactor for the production of active thyroid hormones. In addition, it supports the maintenance of normal hair and nails and, as a component of the antioxidative network, helps to protect the cells from free radicals.
In natural foods, selenium is mostly found in the form of well bioavailable, organically bound selenium. This organic compound is contained in high quality in the branded raw material Lalmin® Se1000, which is used in this high-quality preparation. Lalmin® Se1000 is obtained by cultivating yeast in culture media with selenium, which is absorbed by the yeast cells. This process allows the trace element to interact with the yeast cell components, biochemically converting it into an organically bound form. The gentle final processing of the branded raw material allows a high concentration of the essential nutrient in the completely inactivated selenium yeast.
